Lesson 107 – Convergent Geometric Series

Saxon Advanced Math

Introduction of Sigma
Introduction of Infinite Geometric Series
Introduction of limits

Sequence is a list of numbers (arithmetic sequence has a common difference; geometric sequence has a common ratio/factor)
Series is the sum of a sequence

Finite = a limit to the number
Infinite = no end
Infinite Geometric Series – Can only can be a sum if the numbers are getting smaller (i.e. the ratio is between -1 and 1). Otherwise the numbers are getting bigger and bigger. Arithmetic series can’t have a sum because they will keep increasing/decreasing forever.
